How To Make An At-home Coffee Station

Consider yourself a coffee lover? You may already have a coffee machine at home, and you may be able to make incredible barista-style coffees, but have you taken it to the next level with an at-home coffee station?

A coffee station can serve a few purposes. For one, it is absolutely awesome to have one in your house. Also, it is a way to ensure that you have a space for all of your coffee supplies, whether that means coffee pods for your Nespresso machine, or different types of beans for your bean-to-cup coffee machine.

Let’s explore how to create a coffee station for your home. Whether you want to put a coffee machine in your kitchen, or you want a space in your home office for those much-needed coffee breaks, there are many different ways to design your station.

Choose a cabinet or surface

You need a space for your coffee station. This can be as simple as a cabinet or table in your office room or as complex as a custom-made coffee station. Yes, they really exist. There are stations similar to those you might find in a coffee shop, which have things like milk, sugar, and even additional flavourings for you to add to your coffees.

It may just be a case of dedicating some surface space in your kitchen to the coffee station, but if you can go all out and get a specific cabinet for the job then it gives you more space to work with. This is the way forward when looking to create the best possible coffee station.

Ensure you have access to water and power

If you’re going to prepare everything within the coffee station then you should make sure that you have access to water and power. In your kitchen this won’t be a problem but if you want to make the coffee station in your home office then you might need to give it a little more thought. There’s nothing wrong with bottling some water to use for your brewing and keeping it by the coffee station.

If your coffee station has space to store things inside, this is the perfect place to put some bottled water (if you need it). It is also a good idea to put a waste bin and recycling bin (perfect if you are using recyclable coffee pods).

Set up your machine

Your coffee machine can be the heart of your coffee station. While some people choose to keep their machine separate and just use the coffee station for added extras, we believe in the coffee machine being within the station itself.

A bean to cup coffee machine is ideal, and means that all you need to do is hit a button and let the machine do the work for you. You will just need to add coffee beans, water, and potentially milk, and the machine can create barista-style coffee.

There are plenty of other coffee machines. If you are the sort of person who likes to do the work yourself then a manual espresso machine could be an option. There are also automatic and semi-automatic options. One of the simplest ways to ensure you can quickly make a coffee whenever you need it is to use a pod coffee machine. Pod-based machines usually only need water as well as the pods themselves, so they’re a great option for a coffee station that is not in your kitchen.

Choose your extras

Your coffee station should be all about the options, and this means different products, spices, syrups and more that you can add to your coffee.

There are plenty of barista-style syrups on the market today, so you can make your own caramel latte or even chai latte at home. You can also add the old classics such as sugar (brown and white sugar) and of course cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. All of these are ways to keep your coffee experience fresh and interesting.

We also recommend a choice of coffee beans. They say variety is the spice of life, and while some days you might fancy a strong Nicaraguan coffee, other days you might want a medium roast Ethiopian.

If you aren’t using coffee beans, and the centre of your coffee station is a pod-based coffee machine, you can also ensure you’ve stocked up on different types of pods, providing more flavours and even different types of coffee. There are plenty of pod holders on the market now too, that can give a convenient storage solution as well as something else to have on display.

Summary – Making a Coffee Station

Your coffee station is great for offering a drink to your guests, but first and foremost it is about you and your own coffee preferences. Find the ideal spot in your home, set up your coffee machine, and your station will almost be ready.
