What Are Shower Bombs?

While plunging bath bombs into water to create a colourful, fragrant and soothing bathing experience is a well-versed practice in bathrooms across the country, shower bombs are a product that are not as common but equally as enjoyable.

In recent years, more and more people have been using shower bombs to enhance their showering experience.

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at what shower bombs are, how they work and how you can make the most of them.

What Are Shower Bombs?

Shower bombs are similar to their bath counterparts, and can be used to enhance your experience when showering.

Bath bombs were created in the UK in 1989 by the co-founder of Lush Cosmetics, Mo Constantine, and started to gain prominence in the 1990s. Today, they’re commonplace in most bathrooms across the nation.

Sometimes, you may not have time for a long soak or maybe you simply prefer a quick shower. Despite this, it doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on the joy that a bath bomb can bring.

This is where shower bombs come in. Also known as shower fizzies and shower steamers, shower bombs are very similar to bath bombs but have been designed specifically for use in the shower.

Shower bombs usually come in small tablets or balls that can be dissolved and release stunning fragrances when exposed to water and steam. These products come in a whole host of aromas which the user can enjoy.

The Difference Between Shower Bombs And Bath Bombs

While they have many similarities, there are some striking differences between shower bombs and bath bombs.

This includes the following:

Usage

Shower bombs are only designed for use in the shower. When they dissolve, fragrances are released into the air and where you’re standing- surrounding you with a pleasant aroma which you can enjoy for the duration of your shower. Conversely, bath bombs are intended for use in a bathtub. Once the bath has been filled with water, you simply drop the product into it and enjoy the results. They will fizz and dissolve releasing colour and fragrances which you can bathe in. It’s important to note that you cannot use shower bombs in baths. They shouldn’t be submerged in water as they won’t dissolve correctly, or produce the desired effects.

Composition

While both bath bombs and shower bombs share the same kind of ingredients, like baking soda and citric acid, they do have some differences in terms of composition. For example, shower bombs are created using essential oils and fragrances that are released in the shower to create a pleasant experience in the shower. Whereas bath bombs often contain additional ingredients like moisturising oils, butters and Epsom salts. Due to people being submerged in water during a bath, these ingredients are used to moisturize skin and offer a soothing experience.

Purpose

Both shower bombs and bath bombs have slightly different purposes. Shower bombs are mainly used to enhance the shower experience by providing aromatherapy benefits. The fragrances that the product releases create a relaxing and refreshing environment in the shower, and with so many different scents available people are able to choose something that suits them best. Bath bombs are designed to change bathwater into a soothing space. A combination of fragrances, wonderful colours and moisturising properties are used to create a place that both moisturises the skin and provides the user with an enjoyable bathing experience.

How To Use Shower Bombs?

Now we’ve covered what shower bombs are, it’s time to take a look at how to use a shower bomb.

It’s not a complex process, but there are a few steps you can take to ensure you make the most of shower bombs.

  1. Prepare your shower: Before you begin, make sure the floor of your shower is cleared and clean. Also, adjust the water to your preferred temperature before using the shower bomb.
  2. Place the shower bomb: Grab your shower bomb and place it on the floor of the shower slightly away from the direct stream of water. Position it in a way where it’ll be exposed to an indirect flow of water.
  3. Activate the shower bomb: When the water hits the shower bomb, it will start to fizz and dissolve. This is the process that releases the fragrances and essential oils that are contained within the bomb.
  4. Enjoy the aroma!: Now is the time when you can get maximum enjoyment from the shower bomb. As it dissolves, the stunning scents will be released into the air in the shower. Many shower bombs are designed to induce calm and relaxation, so take some deep breaths to fully maximise your experience.
  5. Rinse off: This step is optional, but if you want you can take some time after the shower to rinse off any residue that may be on your body from the shower bomb. It’s likely to be a minimal amount, and any that has made contact with your skin will simply allow the scent to linger on your body making you smell great!
  6. Clean up: After your shower, rinse away any shower bomb residue which may have remained on the shower floor. Shower bombs tend to be colourful, so you may have some left but it can easily be washed away and will not stain the shower’s floor.

We’d also recommend taking some time to read the instructions on the shower bomb packaging before usage to ensure you fully understand how to get the most from the product.
