The Benefits of Cushions In The Home

Modern life is exhausting.  From keeping up with family and friends to putting in the hours at work and balancing our finances, we barely get time to catch our breath!  So it’s little wonder that more and more of us are suffering from stress-related illnesses and finding it hard to relax.

Each of us combats stress and the perils of modern life in different ways, from spending time with friends, listening to music and reading a good book, to watching TV, working hard at the gym and enjoying the occasional pint or two (or just a good cup of tea!), we choose our own ways to unwind.

While exercise is proven not only to help keep you fit and healthy, it is also widely recognised as a great way to increase your mood, combat anxiety and help you relax, and many of us enjoy a good session in the gym or pounding the streets in joggers and running shoes, easing tension and working our cares away.

But cardio isn’t the only exercise you can do to relieve stress and relax; yoga, Pilates and meditation have huge benefits when it comes to reducing stress and making us feel happier.  In fact, mindfulness meditation has been said to help reduce the stress hormone cortisol, making us feel better.

Meditation isn’t just good for the mind, either.  Studies suggest that it can have a host of physical as well as mental benefits, and as there are a variety of meditation types, it’s easy to find something to suit your needs and lifestyle.  In today’s busy world, devoting just 10 minutes a day to breathing exercises or meditation can really have a positive impact.

Of course, in order for meditation and other forms of deep relaxation to be effective, it’s vital that you’re comfortable and calm; it’s often recommended that you meditate just before you go to bed, or when you’re by yourself, so that you are able to really let yourself fully relax without any distractions.

Many people find that meditation cushions aid this process, as they’re designed to reduce pressure on knees and ankles, and improve and maintain posture, making you more comfortable and enabling you to better focus your mind.  Plus, the more supported you are, the longer you can sit and meditate – increasing the benefits you get from it.  The last thing you want when you’re in the throes of deep relaxation is to find that your bottom has gone numb!

But while meditation cushions can help provide excellent back support, you don’t have to invest in one to find the time to rest, relax and unwind – simply lying in bed or sitting on your sofa or your favourite arm chair can be just as beneficial;  and if you require additional support to get comfy?  Simply use the cushions from your sofa.

Should your cushions be a bit old and flat, and therefore unable to give you the support you need, why not consider new ones?  Not only will they be more comfortable, they’re also a great way to update your living room or bedroom without having to redecorate!
